My name is Louie Cheek. I have been interested in woodworking for as long as I can remember. I built my first
shop in my parents back yard at the age of 16. I had a neighbor that dabbled in woodworking. I enjoyed watching him turn
scrap boards into beautiful works of art. As I grew older, I picked up ‘tricks of the trade’ from anyone that would answer my
questions and let me watch over their shoulders. My wife tells me I should move up to the northeast since I find myself glued
to the TV watching Norm Abram in This Old House and The New Yankee Workshop.
I designed and built several pieces of furniture
for my wife, family and friends. My pastor at Riverside United Methodist Church ask me to build an alter table for our
Contemporary Service. Boy, how that grew... into lecterns, plant stands, several crosses and some other pieces.
I started
reading about pen making and found it interesting. I thought, what can be turned other than wood? I called a friend who
brought me a deer antler, I turned it into a beautiful pen. Family and friends started bringing all kinds of wood and “stuff”
asking that I make pens. The bug hit and I have been making and selling pens ever since.
